EVERYTHING DONE IN MS PAINT!

Another very detailed, and hand-smoothed pixel art from me, woo!

This one is special because it has a timelapse video to go with it! You can see (almost) the entire process! It's very fast though. My smoothing work almost looks like I'm using a blur tool or something! /gloating

So anyway, what it actually is, is a groovebox I designed based on the Korg EMX and ESX. If you don't know what a groovebox is, which you most likely don't, I'll just say it's a table-top device that you can make music on.

I posted it in original size because 2x was too big, though you really have to see the 2x to appreciate the detail. So please look at it here: [link]

And also please watch the timelapse video, which is here: [link]

Thank you!

its cool :) you should pester Propellerhead for a job, this would look really good in Reason!
This is awesome. I am really diggin' this. Hooray for MS Paint I say. I've checked your channel as well and you're not bad! In fact, your sound is especially tight. I never knew.

I've been meaning to get into some Korg and such myself, actually, so I could try to make some of this music on my own. Tell me, how much of a financial investment does one usually put into this sort of thing? What instruments and tools would you recommend? And how hard is it to make this kind of music? I've read some people saying this music is pretty difficult to come out right, not that it'll scare me off. You don't have to answer if people keep buggin' you about these things.

And you need to get a record deal someday.

Also, the 897 in your name came from AFX's "CAT 00897-AA1", didn't it?
Thank you! I'm not really great at music, really. You exxagerate!

I actually never put that together! The 897 were just random numbers I thought of for the first time I ever registered a username on the internet, many years ago. I like your backstory better though, so I'm going to lie in the future ;)

I'm really not such a great person to ask about gear recommendations. I like buying cheap stuff and my style is pretty much 'just for fun' jamming. Also, I like to keep my hardware and software completely seperate. I don't use my computer at all when I'm making stuff on my gear, because I like to feel more limited so I can think creatively.

I've spent something like the high $2000's on all the gear I have, so far. Most people that want to get into this stuff, that I've seen, usually get the Korg EMX. It's a nice all-in-one machine that you can make patterns and songs on, and eventually get better at music. Takes a lot of time though, man. Though if you are really fascinated by making music, and enjoy working with a groovebox, the fun of it should be enough to keep you going.

I started making music like 5 years ago and I still don't think I'm very good. Though I haven't been practicing every day; I only got my first drum machine a little over a year ago, which is when I really got back into making music.

If you find making music really fun, or really like the hardware, you may find yourself unable to resist shelling out hundreds of dollars on new stuff :p At least, that's the case with me. Beware, it could become simply addicting and you'll find yourself spending a lot of money. Though, if you just buy the EMX you'll have enough to really be able to decide whether it is your thing or not. The EMX is plenty enough to hold you over for a while anyway.

I guess I should stop talking now, I don't know much else to say. Thanks again for your comments.
